Privacy policy

Short version: UTFpad does not collect personal data. There are no accounts and no analytics, and the characters and preferences you save stay on your device. The text you search or decode is sent to our server only to return matching characters. The site does, however, display third-party advertising via Google AdSense, which may set cookies — see below.
1. What is stored on your device
A few things are saved locally in your own browser and never leave it:
- Your recent and bookmarked characters, your preferred categories, and any custom font you upload (under Typography), saved in your browser's
localStorage.
This information is not transmitted to the author or to any third party.
2. Search and decode lookups
The Unicode character dataset is served from the App's own backend. When you search, the text you type is sent to that backend; when you decode, the characters of your text are sent to it — in both cases solely to look up and return the matching character data. These requests may appear briefly in standard server logs (kept for security and reliability), but they are not linked to your identity, are never used for advertising or profiling, and are never sold.
3. Advertising (Google AdSense)
The App is supported by ads served through Google AdSense. To serve and measure these ads, Google and its partners may use cookies or similar device identifiers and may collect data such as your IP address and interactions with ads, including to show personalized advertising. This processing is carried out by Google, not by the App, and is governed by Google's policies.
You can learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and you can review or opt out of personalized ads at adssettings.google.com.
4. Cookies
The App itself does not set cookies for its own features; it uses only the browser storage described above to remember your preferences. Third-party cookies may be set by Google AdSense as described in the Advertising section.
5. No other third-party sharing
Aside from the lookups and the ad serving described above, nothing you do in the App is sent off your device. The App does not use any other third-party analytics or tracking services, and your saved data is never sold.
6. How to clear your data
You are always in control. You can remove individual recent or bookmarked characters within the App, or clear everything at once by clearing this site's data in your browser settings (which empties its localStorage). To manage advertising cookies, use the Google ad settings linked above or your browser's cookie controls.
7. Children's privacy
The App does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children.
8. Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
